about ISSW

The International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW) exists to facilitate the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and experiences between snow science researchers and practitioners. The motto of the International Snow Science Workshop is "A Merging of Theory and Practice". ISSW hosts a biennial conference in North America and Europe that brings together researchers and practitioners from all over the world. ISSWs have been geographically rotated between USA-Europe-Canada starting with the first conference in Banff, Alberta in 1976. ISSW 2026 will be the first time the conference has been held in Canada since 2014.

  • ISSW 2028 will be held in Snowbird, Utah in the USA date tbd.

  • The right to host ISSW 2030 is open to sites within Europe with ISSW 2032 returning to Canada. 

  • ISSWs are usually awarded 4 years in advance; however, a proposal can be considered earlier.
